Minister Lorenzin signed the decree banning the preparations masterful purposes slimming containing the active ingredients: Triac, clorazepate, fluoxetine, furosemide, metformin, bupropion and topiramate.

"Of these substances, authorized individually for several therapeutic indications (such as the treatment of anxiety, depression, diabetes, hypertension and epilepsy) - the report said the Ministry - is often made abuse, using various associations, for purely aesthetic purposes."

The decree was adopted after reports AIFA (Italian Drug Agency) to the Ministry, from which it emerged that the magisterial preparations containing the aforementioned active ingredients individually, but most often in association combined with each other, when used in slimming purpose , have an extremely unfavorable benefit-risk and can be dangerous for those who use it.

The risk that adverse reactions may increase, then, in relation to the number of active principles associated in the preparation which can also cause psychiatric disorders and reactions to the cardiovascular system. Added to this is that these combinations have never been investigated in accordance with regular clinical trials, are deprived of leaflet and data sheet to which the patient can refer to learn about the characteristics of the product and that the documentation available on the individual active does not guarantee security of the same, when administered in combination with each other. It is also known that the reaction Adverse magistral preparations are less marked than those of the drugs.

This move follows two other decrees adopted by the Minister Lorenzin (May 20 and July 27, 2015), after reporting AIFA, with which have been banned two other substances used in or masterful slimming purposes: phenylpropanolamine / norephedrine and pseudoephedrine.
