Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza opens the new Institute for Regenerative Medicine in San Giovanni Rotondo
It 'was inaugurated the new Institute for Regenerative Medicine's Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza in San Giovanni Rotondo (Foggia), the structure of excellence achieved by St. Pio of Pietrelcina. The Institute was financed with 14 million euro by the Ministry dell'Istruzioni, University and Research as part of the National Operational Programme "Research and Competitiveness" 2007-2013 Priority I "support and Structural Changes".
The building was built next to Clinic "Giovanni Paolo II" and is an institute for scientific research and health with very specific functions. In fact, the Institute will focus on the development of cell therapies, gene and tissue engineering, among the branches most innovative research and regenerative medicine. It is equipped with a structure capable of producing new biopharmaceuticals, cellular therapies, prostheses for fabrics already clinical grade and then immediately usable for human experimentation.
With this inauguration of the Society of St. Pius "it takes a new and significant step forward - said Card. Parolin homily at the Mass celebrated later in the new church dedicated to the saint - toward those goals for which it was planned and willed. A center that not only represents an important scientific achievement, but also a result of value for those who believe in the vision of the holy Capuchin. "
